1. Client

  • Countries: France, Italy, Spain, Poland and Russia
  • Business: food retailer offering convenience shopping and high-quality products at low prices
  • 300 stores in France, 13,500 employees

2. Context

Following a tendering process during which the Auchan group assessed the main technologies available on the market, the SES solution - deployed by Wincor Nixdorf - was selected as the most appropriate for future installation in Auchan stores across the world. After conducting a study on the time spent on paper labeling, the management of Simply Market - a supermarket brand belonging to the Auchan retail group - quickly identified the advantages of electronic labeling in terms of flexibility, optimized time management and price accuracy.

3. Why SES?

As the SES solution had already been approved by the Auchan group, Simply Market naturally opted for SES. But more importantly, the transmission technology, the overall package and the upgrade possibilities specific to the SES technology were perceived as a guarantee of sustainability and operational simplicity:

  • Reliable transmission regardless of changes to the store’s layout
  • A level of performance and speed that allows for the transmission of a very large volume of information (management data)
  • Anti-theft mounting systems adapted for all types of furnishings
  • Possibility of using the store’s existing WiFi PDAs to initialize the ESLs

Process quality and efficiency were decisive factors for us. We wanted a solution that would meet our reliability and performance requirements. We were also looking for a partner able to guarantee optimal service and a problem-free installation of the solution in our supermarkets. Thierry Breton, National Deployment Manager in charge of new technologies, Simply Market

4. Specific needs

Customer service quality is a priority for everyone at Simply Market. The main objectives in installing an electronic shelf labeling solution were to:

  • Reduce discrepancies between prices displayed at the shelf edge and those scanned at the checkout
  • Guarantee optimal price positioning at all times
  • Facilitate the day-to-day management of stock, orders, facings, etc.

5. Outcome

  • ƒAlmost total elimination of price discrepancies between the checkout and the shelf edge
  • Price updates implemented immediately at the shelf edge
  • Display of management data prior to store opening
  • Compliance with planograms (even during very busy periods) and good visibility of supply disruptions

SES and WINCOR NIXDORF - the company that integrates the solution into our stores - convinced us that their package was the most suited to our needs, in terms of strengthening our discount policy, improving the quality of our displays, minimizing our operating costs and delivering the best return on our investment. They also demonstrated that their solution, which is already installed in the group’s hypermarkets, meets the requirements of our supermarkets too. Pascal Fenart, Information Systems Manager, Simply Market
